About

Hasan Ayaz, PhD is an Associate Professor at Drexel University, School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems, Philadelphia, PA, a core member of Cognitive Neuroengineering and Quantitative Experimental Research Collaborative, Adjunct Professor at the University of Pennsylvannia and an Associate Fellow at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He received his BSc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, Türkiye with high honors and MSc. and PhD degrees from Drexel University where he developed enabling software for functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy based brain monitoring and FDA approved medical devices. Starting in 2001, he worked on the development of continuous wave functional near-infrared sensors and developed enabling software for brain monitoring instruments. As an extension of this, he led the software design and development for a portable-handheld medical device, InfraScanner, that utilizes fNIR to detect hematoma in head trauma patients. Dr. Ayaz’s research involves understanding the neural mechanisms related to human perceptual, cognitive, and motor functioning with a focus on real-world contexts, utilizing mobile neuroimaging, and deploying neuroengineering approaches for neuroergonomics applications.
